Go to the Sanmiwago at the Mott St. Eatery instead of the stand alone store a few blocks away, it taste better.

I thought the beef noodle soup I had from Sanmiwago was one of the worst I've ever had. Complete 5 spice bomb that wasn't balanced at all.

  • replying to u/crazeman: Honestly I feel like there wasn't that much closure in Chinatown. I mean there were a few that closed but they were mostly old school bakeries or like old school HK cafes that most people on reddit would have never visited anyhow lol. Some "newer" places that I like that have opened up in the past few years: Sanmiwago at Mott St. Eatery, Good beef noodle soup chain from Taiwan. Mabu Hong Kong Cafe is from Toronto and they have a "modern" take on Hong Kong cafes. Chang Lai Fishballs Noodles opened up last year? They used to be a rice noodle cart. I love them but its typical rice noodle + fish balls cart fare. Matcha Cafe Maiko has great matcha/green tea ice cream. It's attached to a Kyu Ramen which is also new. Kitchen Co Ut has pretty good Vietnamese food. Some "New" places I have **NOT** been to yet: (it's on the list lol) Mam is supposed to have good Vietnamese and they made it to [26 on NYTimes Best 100 Restaurant list](https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2023/dining/best-nyc-restaurants.html?unlocked_article_code=1.LE0.nmDU.h0YEY4Iz7USs&smid=url-share). They recently expanded and took over the storefront next door as well. They have some weird ordering system (probably because before they expanded, they were a literal hole in the wall) where you have to pre-order the food via some link on their instagram. Their menu rotates like every few days and I like that they would feature a lot of lesser known Vietnamese dishes. Pot Luck Club has "modern" Cantonese food. It…

  • Sanmiwago also makes my favorite beef noodle soup and I would consider that a must get from the food court if you're looking for more food.

  • replying to u/LongIsland1995: Sanmiwago dumplings are amazing And speaking of there, it's worth checking out Mott Street eatery and sampling the different stalls

I did like Sanmiwago's dumplings but it feels kinda bad when you're paying $7-10 for 8 dumplings when you can get like 20 dumplings $10 at King's Dumpling.
