replying to u/moostodon: One of my favourite NYC memories (not a resident) is 5am Veselka. We had shut down the original Angel’s Share and had drinks with the staff as they cleaned up, then an eccentric regular we’d been hanging with suggested we go. This was well before social media took over and it’s such a blurry, fuzzy and perfect memory.

replying to u/ChefSuffolk: Almost all dishes fall between $15-$17. Yes, some are smaller appetizers/sides. If one’s only goal is to shove some sustenance down their gullet, then sure, there are less expensive options. That said, complainers gonna complain, but it’s just about the cheapest table service restaurant on Avenue A. I think maybe Hub Thai a couple blocks down is (on average) slightly cheaper. And maybe TabeTomo, the ramen joint, too. Certainly for any chef-driven place using fresh produce it’s a cheap night out.
