replying to u/pavelysnotekapret: Many places in queens, while well known to those in the community, receive basically no coverage in the trendy outlets. Some of my favs: Renee’s Kitchenette (Filipino grill), Downtown Yummy (XLB, infinitely better than Nan Xiang), Young and Rich (Hunanese), Mr. duck vermicelli (Nanjing duck soup, I think there’s one in Brooklyn too), Salvatoria Kitchen and Br (El Salvadoran, love their pupusas), Beijing Hotpot (for some reason never gets mentioned alongside Chongqing Laozao, never had to wait for a table but always really good, their meat is insanely good), Merit Kabab Palace (lowkey a sleeper hit, their chicken momos are my favorite and I vote for them every year in momos fest), Old captain dumplings (around the corner from White Bear, just as good but they have mackerel dumplings which are hard to find in America). Also Brooklyn, shout out to Gongfu Xiao Long Bao, the kind of XLB that is popular outside of Shanghai (the kind of XLB commonly sold in the city is only one kind of a family of very different steamed buns)
