Shinn WestCHAIN

7.8/10Japanese

AI-generated summary

A 12 course for around $70, which is why people keep naming it as a first . The quality beats most things at that price. One thing to know, the cuts are prepped ahead rather than made in front of you, and one person called it fine but not memorable.

  • replying to u/quackus: If you're serious about being willing to do a 10-15 minute walk, there's a ton of stuff in that area. Within your proposed cuisines: Thai - Chalong; Pure Thai Cookhouse Korean - Mari; Kochi Sushi - Shinn West Mediterranean - Marseille; there are also a bunch of corporate Greek restaurants on or around 6th Ave. (e.g., Avra, Milos, Limani, etc.) that, while expensive, are also delicious For what it's worth Le Rock (French), the bar room at The Modern (less fancy New American than the main dining room), 53 (broadly Chinese fusion) and Blue Willow (Hunan) are generally very good.

12 course Omakase for $69 is a great deal, the quality was amazing as well

  • Better go to Shinn West, Thirteen water for that cheaper price point and much better quality of fish

  • replying to u/mawajay87: These all look great. It looks like Shinn/Sanyuu are a little more expensive compared to 35 West. Is the quality worth the price increase? If you had to pick one, which would you pick?

On the other hand, Shinn/Sanyuu are proper (but very budget friendly) omakase joints.

  • I also liked Shinn West which is a little bit more expensive but has some creative pieces.

  • Shinn East or West is a good introduction to omakase, quality and fresh cuts (though prepped before meal) and one of the most affordable in the city.
