replying to u/crazeman: I'd go for [Takahachi Bakery](https://maps.app.goo.gl/u99Yg52Vdo3NKuLd7). They're a local Japanese Bakery by WTC/City Hall and it was my go to when I used to work in FIDI. The best part is that the cake isn't that big so you can probably finish most of it over a weekend and not have to throw half the cake out lol. They used to have a few pre-made cakes behind the glass but it was kind of a hit or miss in terms of whether there would be any available, I'd call and pre-order/reserve one just to be safe. I also think their cake is better than Paris Baguette. Paris Baguette cakes looks incredibly good but the taste always leaves me disappointed because it never taste as good as it looks lol.

replying to u/SpeciousPerspicacity: What fun! If I were to take a single area, it would be a route from Tribeca, up through Chinatown, and then ultimately in the East Village. You begin at Frenchette Bakery, where you obtain some sort of filled feuilletée pastry and a baguette. Move through Chinatown and try to beat the line for a pork bun at Mei Lai Wah. Heading upwards through the LES, buy a cruffin from Supermoon, then snake through the EV, grabbing some nutty/floral thing from Librae, a slice of olive oil cake from Abraço, then a cardamom bun from La Cabra, and one more from Smor (to compare). There’s a Breads Bakery off Union Square for babka, and if you go Monday or Friday, She Wolf sets up at the farmer’s market there — their batard is just good bread. If you want to spend (lots of) money, you can end the day with a corn-shaped pastry at Lysée, in the Flatiron district. Whew! Quite a tour. You’ll be well-caffeinated too, because half of these places have more-than-respectable coffee programs (in fact, at least a couple listed above are actually closer to coffee shops with exceptional sweets than bakeries).

replying to u/nyckidd: My dude, I got you. I've been working down there for almost 3 years and I take my lunch seriously. Pisillos Italian Panini and Omars Mediterranean are two iconic spots. They'll both run you slightly over 20 bucks but the Pisillos sandwiches are legitimately the biggest I've ever gotten, I have a very healthy appetite and I still get two full meals out of one of thei sandwiches. They're cash only btw. Omars is similar, 21 bucks for a plate, but it's massive (especially if you get it to go rather than to stay), easily food for two meals, and incredibly tasty. For more regular chain spots, you can go to the Brookfield Place food court, Dig, Naya, and Dos Toros are all solid options that will run you about 15 bucks. Honorable mention to Gai Chicken and Rice, they have great Thai style fried chicken and their French fries are better than they have any right to be. On the cheaper side, there's also Sakura Teriyaki of Japan, perfectly servicable plate of Teriyaki for like 10 bucks. Lastly, there's Takahachi Bakery on Murray Street, this is a phenomenal Japanese bakery with great prices, their cream buns are so fucking good. Perfect if you want something sweet, though they also sell fairly prices sandwiches to go and have great tea. Enjoy your lunch!

The yelp/google reviews hype the matcha crepe but personally I'm not a fan. It feels like I'm just eating a weird burrito full of cream but I also don't like Lady M's cakes either so maybe I'm just a crepe hater. \--- I also love [Tadaima ](https://maps.app.goo.gl/MfBzuiriiwzcFi3f6)in Japan Village/Industry City. Lovely hole in the wall Japanese cafe that has great tea/coffee and decent baked cookies and other small baked goods. They don't have cake or a place to sit so it doesn't fit your criteria but worth checking out if you're ever in the area. There is a cake/pastry stall if you walk over to the food court in Japan Village so maybe that counts.
