  • Fanelli Cafe, Ear Inn, and Old Town Bar are all old bars - historical, not dive, where you can get a really good burger but they have other good food

The last Fanelli burger I had may have been the best burger I've ever had.

Fanellis veggie burger is so good too. Don’t get me wrong, I love a regular burger but their veggie burger is so good. The texture is perfect

  • replying to u/thansal: So, since you're vegetarian I think you might be best served with a non/nontraditional-steakhouse, and I'd have 2 options: 1. Minetta Tavern, not a steakhouse. It's about as Old NYC as you can get, steak frites is fucking lovely, and they have some actually good looking veg options (I've never actually had them though). It's still in Manhattan. 2. St Anselms, not a traditional steakhouse - Their butcher's steak used to be the best deal in town, now it's fine, but it would be a great intro steak. They don't have any vegetarian mains, but they have a lot of vegetables that come off their wood fire grill (and other veg options), which is pretty awesome. Not in Manhattan, not old school NYC at all (it's from the age of Hipsterification of Brooklyn, so still very 'NY' for certain non-NYers), but it's an easy trip and still a lovely place.

my favorite steak frites in the city is at Fanelli Cafe on Prince and Mercer.

  • replying to u/nyc-dad: I live in the area. Walker's is meh. My suggestions - walk a few extra blocks and go to Raoul's. If you like Indian go to Tamarind. Cocktails or post dinner drinks at Smith and Mills. Au Cheval for burgers. American Cut has good steaks. Frenchette, I prefer to eat the bar, and of course Odeon for lunch.

Fanelli’s worth the walk to soho for that fare.
