Cha-An

8.6/10Japanese

AI-generated summary

Get the black sesame creme brulee. It comes with black sesame and it's the one everyone names. The japanese parfait is the other regular pick, and the is good but people come for the dessert. It's a quiet Japanese house that also does lunch bento.

  • replying to u/Foodiegirlie030793: I love the nasi lemak from a few Malaysian restaurants (it’s a coconut flavored rice centered dish) I like it from Nynonya in LES or Malay Restaurant in Flushing even Papa Rich has a good one. Another dish is Hainanese chicken rice you can also order that at the Malaysian restaurants. The thai version can be found at chick it out in LIC. I also enjoy the sticky white rice that comes with tofu stew in Korean restaurants.

  • replying to u/crazeman: Check out Sanmiwago for their beef noodle soup. They're from Taiwan and they make a really good one. There's actually 2 Sanmiwago in Chinatown within a few block from each other. Go to the one at the [food court at Mott St. Eatery](https://www.yelp.com/biz/sanmiwago-new-york). I swear that my hair guy in Chinatown and I both agree that it taste better than the stand alone location. \--- Another good beef noodle spot is [Ho Foods](https://www.yelp.com/biz/ho-foods-new-york-3). They a hole in the wall and they have a more "modern" beef noodle soup for $21. Ho Food claim that they simmer their broth for 24 hours, yada yada, but I personally feel like the one from Sanmiwago is more homey and tastes better. Ho Food have a special Taiwanese breakfast menu on the weekends, so maybe they're worth checking out on Saturday morning. Note that I've never had the breakfast menu. Always wanted to try it but I'd never make it to Manhattan that early lol. \--- I don't feel like there's a specific place that standouts for soup dumplings in Chinatown, so I'd say go check out [Noodle Village](https://www.yelp.com/biz/noodle-village-new-york-7). They have one of the best wonton noodle soup in Chinatown, and you can order soup dumplings on the side.

[Cha-an](https://www.yelp.com/biz/cha-an-new-york) is a great tea house where you can chill and get some excellent tea and desserts. The Sesame creme brulee and the Japanese parfaits are really good and I feel like they're they have been on the menu the longest.
