replying to u/Lopsided-Soil-2815: Los Tacos is fine. If you want absolute fire tacos, go to the taco truck that is outside of the Shop Fair in East Harlem, 110 between Lex and 3rd. He's there every night after 7 and his tacos are absurd.

replying to u/the_chonkist: It is better but not really an apples to apples comparison. Taco Mix, Taqueria Al Pastor are both superior for Al Pastor. Chato is basically on par for saudero but no line.

replying to u/JayMoots: My favorites: * Birria Landia Truck (Many locations) * Nene's (Astoria/Bushwick/Park Slope) * Los Tacos No 1 (many locations) * Taqueria/Carnitas Ramirez (Greenpoint/EV) * El Prieto (Chelsea) * Taqueria Al Pastor (Bushwick/Brooklyn Heights) * Santo Taco (Nolita/Union Square) (I don't think this makes much of a crawl though, because they're all so scattered. I'd just do it entirely in Bushwick.)

replying to u/herffjones99: Nowhere near the Met, but if you're willing to go a couple stops up, taco mix has good tacos. If Mimi's pizza is still open, that's probably the closest food I'd recommend to the Met.

replying to u/Sea_Pangolin1525: There are now a few good places in Manhattan: Carnitas Ramirez, Tacos 1986, Santo Taco. I wouldn't say any are better than Los Tacos. Each does their own thing. Los Tacos was an important step up at a time when there really weren't good taco places in the city. I lived in East Harlem in the 00s, the most mexican neighborhood in the city, and the places were not great. Since los tacos raised the bar other places are competing, also in brooklyn like El Chato, Tacos Ramirez, Tacos Guey, and Al Pastor in Bushwick. It's great that we have a selection now. If people think all these places are too expensive, that's different than saying they are bad. Of course food in NY is too expensive. What else is new?

replying to u/Estri_Grobbulus: On the taco front, Tacos No. 1 is really solid for a high volume taco shop, but I would go to Tacqueira Ramirez over Tacos No. 1 of i was trying to do a best-of list over a list of just solid spots. That said, the key is to just have fun and take it all in. Trip will be a whirlwind, so it's okay if you miss some spots. Just means you need to come back :) cheers from Long Island City

Which just means you’re going for proximity over quality and value. Again that’s fine, but don’t be surprised when people expect them to be outstanding. They’re might have been a decade ago, but things have definitely developed since

replying to u/KoalaOnABuilding: I used to always go to Vinateria, but that place... it's fallen off hard in the last few years, and I've been going since it opened. I like Lido on 8th and 117, simple Italian but it's been there forever for a reason. Consistently solid. I actually had to walk out of Vinateria on my birthday because they fucked up the food so bad, and my girlfriend and I decided to try Clay on Manhattan and 123rd - probably my new spot for a good meal in that area (I tend to stay east of the park), really good if maybe conventional American type spot. My steak was excellent and my GF, who obsessed with tartare, really enjoyed hers. Great vibes there, too.
