replying to u/MagicBez: Issue here is that their Phaal abandons flavour to go for pure spice heat. While the dish has always been a bit like this (it was invented in the UK due to demand for something hotter than a Vindaloo) it usually has _some_ actual flavour rather than just being a "challenge"

replying to u/halfcastdota: semma is a popular restaurant in the west village so a certain portion of this sub hates it. if they announced a relocation to astoria and did not change a single thing about the menu or food they serve the same people dragging it would immediately proclaim it as the greatest restaraunt on earth. all i’m gonna say is i’ve been twice and have taken my tamil parents and they both absolutely loved it. both times ive been there the majority of tables were speaking tamil. take that as you will.

replying to u/TreeLong7871: my favorite is Drunken Munke on the UES. from what I understand it's a specific type of Indian food. their Biryani is insane if you're in Astoria, Seva is also highly regarded. I live next to it and I don't imagine you can get much better take out then that
