replying to u/superturtle48: Seconding suggestions of Saiguette, Mama's Too, Absolute Bagel, and Roti Roll (I used to like Doaba Deli but kind of got turned off by their C sanitary rating). I'd also add Sal & Carmine for classic NY pizza, Awash for Ethiopian, and Sushi W for (relatively) affordable omakase.

replying to u/VanceAdvance: For Ethiopian, you gotta hit up Harlem, that's where the best spots are concentrated. Awash (on Amsterdam Ave around 106th/107th) is solid and pretty close if you're coming from Central Park. Their kitfo is excellent. If you want something a bit more special, Benyam near Jackie Robinson Park is family-run, super charming, and the injera is crazy good (they can even do gluten-free if you call ahead). Tsion Cafe in Sugar Hill is also worth checking out - they do live music sometimes which is a cool vibe. All of these are north of Central Park like you mentioned, and way better than anything you'll find in Midtown

replying to u/Malsperanza: Came here to recommend Awash, which is one of my local go-tos. Also good in Harlem are Massawa and Lalibela, and there are a bunch of others I haven't tried. Basically, you can order a sampler or combo for x number of people and you get an enormous platter made of spongy injera bread with all the different foods on it. Lots of good vegetarian choices too.
