Mace

6.5/10

AI-generated summary

People come for the cocktails, and the word that repeats is inventive. Happy hour runs until 7 most days with drinks around $12, and the pandan milk punch is the one people name. Ordering off menu and asking for a riff works well. Opinions split though. Plenty call it one of the best bars in the city, and others find it bland and underwhelming.

  • Not only are their drinks some of the best I’ve ever had, but if you get their off-menu happy hour special it’s only $12 which is a steal for how good it is.

  • replying to u/crazeman: Some comments: [According to Eater](https://ny.eater.com/2023/10/13/23889283/lou-yau-kee-hainan-chicken-rice-singapore-urban-hawker-food-hall), Lou Yau Kee basically has basically the same Hainanese chicken as Hainan Joe at the "new" Urban Hawker food hall. Hainan Joe might fit better into your schedule since it's in midtown near all the touristy stuff. Urban Hawker is relatively new food court that focuses on Singapore (street?) food. I'd probably straight up remove Brennan and Carr from the list. They're kind of in the middle of nowhere in Brooklyn and it's annoying to get to. There's also not much touristy stuff to do in that area. IMO their roast beef is nowhere near amazing enough to plan a trip just for their sandwich. Lucali is supposedly the "best" Pizza in the city but it's also annoying to get a seat. It's something like you have to be there 30-60 mins before they open, put your name on the reservation, find a nearby bar and wait/drink until your reserved time comes up. I've never been there so I can't tell you if it's worth it.

Mace > DCP for unique cocktails (and ease of reservations)

  • replying to u/knite: Mace by a mile. The back room of Double Chicken is also great, but is a harder reservation and the drinks are a hair worse. Honorable mention goes to Amar y Amargo - their cocktails aren’t creative in terms of ingredients, but their whole program is built around spirit forward bitters.

I find Mace bland and tasteless- I don’t get the hype.
