  • replying to u/obayol: Has anyone tried their Jersey City branch? Been meaning to try it out but haven’t read any reviews about it anywhere

The Jersey City branch had really good double-cooked pork (回锅肉)when I went last time, better than their Manhattan location when I ordered delivery. The bullfrog was really bad. And surprisingly, their cabbage (手撕包菜) was also pretty bad (under cooked), which was a bit surprising since it’s a simpler dish.

  • their paper-thin pork belly slices in garlic chili sauce is my go-to starter/side. For mains, a bowl of mapo tofu (beef mince and silken tofu) which has a spicy but delicious sauce is what I always get plus a cup of white rice. Another time I had their pork belly slices + crab meat sauce (no heat at all) over rice, loved that as well.

  • Top tier dry chili fried chicken and mapo tofu, my current favorites in the city. They don’t hold back on spices. Highly recommend.

  • Peppercorn Station is excellent. Particularly good laziji/dry chili chicken but it's all good there

  • replying to u/runthedish: What do you suggest from Peppercorn? I inevitably just order the fish fillet w pickled cabbage - theirs is my favorite version in manhattan so far. Would love to try other stuff.

Their mapo tofu, dry chili fried chicken, and double cooked pork are excellent.

  • Particularly good versions of Chongqing chicken and fish with pickled mustard greens among everything else (love also the pork belly with garlic as well as the black truffle fried rice.)
