Yamada

8.8/10Japanese

AI-generated summary

People call it the best kaiseki in the city right now. The flavors run bolder and more westernized than traditional kaiseki, so it works for people who find the usual style too muted. The donabe rice course is the one people single out, and you get seconds. It's very expensive.

  • This is an extremely westernized fusion kaiseki meal and it is really really good.

  • replying to u/everclear_handle: I haven't heard much about Yamada since it opened so I am surprised it got 4 stars so quickly. Has anyone tried this place yet? Also, I'm not that big of a fan of this review style, I'd much rather prefer they do what the infatuation does than throw four adjective laden paragraphs about eels at me

Yamada has a more photogenic style that will impress diners who aren’t necessarily looking for true flavors but the whole “experience”

  • replying to u/carefullywasnt: Going to Muku in a few days, it was really hard to decide between Muku and Yamada. What makes you say Yamada as the best of the 3?

Yamada's menu overall had more diverse flavors. And their donabe dish is the best dish between the 3 restaurants.

  • replying to u/Ok_Relationship7992: If you had to choose between the two which did you prefer?

I would do Yamada. They just got a rare four stars from NYT. Each dish is just so unique and the chef is truly a master of kaiseki
