replying to u/laughingwalls: So a lot of people are going to say basically "its the tought that counts". However, since your thinking about the topic to begin with you probably want the best meal. To be honest I've been doing an exploration of Omakase's at that price point and if he doe above 100$ omakase's a lot, I'd just go for regular sushi instead. If you know he eats and loves good sushi, I would suggest probably take him to somewhere like Hatsuhana or Sushi 35west, which offer high quality ala carte option. You'll probably get better quality food for the same price. The conclusion I've come to is that a lot of the cheaper places are fairly 'manufactured' and they do a same/similar menu day in day out and its not really a show case of seasonal fish which is what the higher end places. The other thing is they tend to give a lot less food and unless he's small appetite, they actually aren't better value propositions then the next tier up (the 200$ placeS). I do think there is a point to these cheaper Omakase places, and that's if you are going more for the atmosphere and really don't haven't had enough sushi to actually appreciate the higher end places. There is no shame in that. Like I know I wouldn't be able to tell the difference between a 50$ bottle of wine and a 500$ bottle of wine, because I hardly every drink wine. If you have to do the 100$ omakase, my suggestion would be Domakase at DomoDomo. Their option is less traditional, and includes a lot of appetizers, a dessert…

replying to u/cjmmoseley: thursday: —————————————————— champers social club (fig prosciutto toast, lavender lemonade mimosa) this is my new favorite brunch spot in nyc! we made reservations for 10 and were seated immediately. there was no one else eating the entire time we were there, and our waitress was very kind. the toast i got was DELICIOUS, as was the mimosa. i will absolutely be returning and bringing my friends/fiancé here. 10/10 funny face bakery (chocolate chip cookie) we decided to stop in here off of a whim and loved how cute all of the sugar cookies were! i will definitely be coming back for those alone. i split a chocolate chip cookie with my mom and we both agree these are the best we’ve had here so far. for being so close to levain, im surprised this place doesn’t have a line out the door. it’s spectacular! 10/10 emilio’s ballato (chicken parm, limoncello) i really wanted to like this place. i heard so many good things about it, but the service RUINED the experience for me. to get it out of the way, i will say the food was good. however, the chicken parm could have been a little crispier imo. the food was good, a solid 8/10, but it was NOT worth the way my mom, fiancé, and i were treated. we went in around 1:30, since we were both hungry. this place had about 5-6 empty tables when we came in, and we were immediately barked at by the man (who we later learned was the owner) to sit down and find a seat. it was unnecessarily aggressive, and we were confused as to why there wasn’…
