“the food is solid, but definitely not remarkable. Both are fashionable/trendy spot with wannabe influencers everywhere takin pics and no one seems as worried about the food quality. Principe is classier (for lack of a better word) and Cathedrale is the typical Tao Group scene. Which is to say wack. Feels like Vegas. And I do not mean that as a compliment.”
↳replying to u/scarstring: Agreed on skipping the salmon rilletes. What’s amazed me is that every dish comes with its own perfect bread, including the fonduta and wild mushroom toast (different textures with different levels of toastiness!).. even the tartar vs the lobster roll have their own different chips embedded within. It’s the small details that matter, and they have them nailed down.
“Personally I liked the rillettes and found them well-seasoned and not too fishy, esp as someone who normally isn't a huge fan of salmon.”

↳replying to u/kokoromelody: I do find their a la carte menus pretty pricey, but have enjoyed what I've tried there. The bar bites are excellent imo - def recommend the mini lobster rolls and the smoked rillettes (the bread is amazing). Personally would skip the chips & dip unless you're a big fan of caviar.

“Went to Cathedrale a few weeks ago and thought their RW was pretty good value as well - really enjoyed the Duck Confit though I thought the apps were a bit limited.”
“Crane Club in Chelsea would be closer- aside from the tackiness of the owners it has a nice ambience and good steaks; same thing with Cathedrale in East Village.”
↳replying to u/Dirschel: Cathédrale. Terrible service, food was so mid and overpriced. It’s like those houses that get put up quickly and look nice and new, but you look closer and see the walls are thin and foundation is made from composite wood.

“I went here for a company event and the food and the cocktails were incredible and deliciously amazing.”
↳replying to u/realchickentendersub: Chiming in on Cathedrale, I had a mostly negative experience for my girlfriend’s birthday party last year. I think there were around 12 of us. We were told at check-in that our reservation lasts 2 hours from the reservation time, and we would be charged extra if we stayed beyond our allotted time.
The issues began when we were seated 20 minutes late and drinks took 45 minutes to arrive. About halfway through the food being brought out (from the prepaid set menu), we were told our reservation was about to end and were reminded that staying beyond our reservation time would result in additional charges. We spoke with the manager, who assured us we would not be charged, resulting in additional staff serving our party. Dinner ended up going an hour over our allotted time. While the food was good, service was awful and I would not recommend.
“The whole atmosphere seems fake fancy if that makes sense? Not worth a revisit in my opinion.”
