Family Meal

7.8/10

AI-generated summary

There's no menu at dinner. They cook what comes off their farm upstate and lean hearty rather than creative. People say it's the easy pick when a group has different dietary needs. The weekend lunch, about $85 for four courses, gets recommended more than dinner. Some find it plain and wrong for a celebration.

  • It was a lovely experience - great ambiance, service, my husband loved the unique wine pairing - but it wasn’t worth it to me to eat sweet potatoes 5 ways… if the menu is something that interests you, it’s a great meal

  • all they serve are essentially very fresh produce from their farm upstate with a solid portion of protein. It's a very safe bet.

  • replying to u/aigrette: it really depends on what he's looking for, imo, because certain people find different things engaging. for some it's purely wanting really great food; other people (like my husband) really want a fancy environment and high end service. I'm personally a fan of any kind of access to seeing the kitchen or the staff. or any kind of education about the process or the food. so my personal votes (I chimed in for Gabriel kreuthers above) are Blue Hill at Stone Barns, Atomix, and Momofuku ko. the latter seats you at a bar around the front kitchen and let's you see the team prep the food for the evening at different stations. the kitchen staff serve you and can chat while you eat and encourages people to ask questions about the food, the process, and their own experiences in the kitchen. however, it's not fancy at all and typically has loud music playing compared to much more elegant settings. blue hill at Stone Barns and Atomix are just wonderful experiences all around and just generally special given the amount of care the chefs and the staff put into the food and educating the dinners about the product or cuisine. Atomix even provides lovely printed cards that have thoughts from the chef about each dish, its origins and even notes the Korean artisans that created the dishware.

Family Meal (Blue Hill NYC) is an excellent option for those who enjoy vegetable/grain forward meals.

  • replying to u/Title26: I just ate at Family Meal last night. Was fantastic. Would recommend.

Also loved Family Meal when we were there a month ago, one of the better michelin experiences we've had in terms of quality, service, interesting food, and price.

  • Family meal is I just want to have really good hearty food with some of the best produce and meats. It's a farm table experience where ingredients shine.  There is a reason they have a Michelin Star.
