Souraji

4.8/10Japanese

AI-generated summary

Souraji is an all you can eat , around $98 for unlimited otoro, wagyu and sake in 90 minutes. People go for the deal and the fun, not the quality. The repeated complaint is the rice, so heavy on vinegar it leaves an aftertaste, plus thin slivers of at the end. The pacing is rushed.

  • replying to u/CabassoG: Been to all three. In my opinion, the pre-AYCE selection is better at Hayashi and as I love scallops, I prefer their AYCE. If you want AYCE shrimp and wagyu, Hatsu is better. They also add the same toppings to their AYCE selection unlike Hayashi if that's a plus. I don't like SourAji (any location.) The rice quality sucks and they give you tiny slivers of fish with mounds of rice at the end. It's way cheaper but I don't think it's worth it.

Sour aji is the bottom of the list. The rice uses a heavy amount vinegar (hence the name sour aji) and over time is hard to stomach that amount of rice like that.

  • it was not a good experience. Everything was super rushed which is understandable but the rice was undercooked

  • If you want AYCE it’s great, if you want quality traditional omakase it isn’t what you’d be looking for

  • I could tell it was _fine,_ but the AYCE was fun at the end and the unlimited sake really made the whole ordeal more fun.

  • replying to u/Frozen_elephant22: SourAji is certainly less fancy than your typical omakase, and definitely has a young professional splurging on a date crowd, but the food is top notch. I’ve been to multiple omakase in nyc and throughout Japan and SourAji is a top 3 for me no doubt.

I personally don't like sour Aji because of how heavy the vinegar is on the rice. It leaves such a taste in your tongue that gets off putting over time.

  • replying to u/4ypno: so many people have said the slivers of fish are thin during ayce and they put too much vinegar in the rice lol

I didn’t think the fish was too thin, and also even if it was you can get as many as you want so why does it matter. Also the wagyu is excellent and I got more of that either way.
