“So lukewarm it got cold quick. It felt like they got it from a can, didn’t bother to heat it properly, and dumped it on a plate thinking we wouldn’t notice. We noticed. Drinks were ehhh…. My steak was bigger than I expected but that didn’t make it a plus bc it was overcooked and eating it felt like a chore.”

Seems like the first time was the fluke, everything was even more stale the third time”

“It's almost in so bad it's good territory (minus the price tag....) I went about two winters ago for afternoon tea and we were the only people there. Felt like being in a creepy museum, and the food would have been bad for a museum cafeteria.”

Felt like being in a creepy museum, and the food would have been bad for a museum cafeteria. A waiter (not ours) kept coming up to us, saying hello with a little waive, and then returning to unclear where. The entire thing felt like the start to a horror movie.

I'm not a big drinker either, just a little night music with my vol-au-vent or Stroganoff. Further east, I like the original PJ Clarke's for another vintage NYC experience. One of the oldest restaurants in the city, a smaller brick building amongst the skyscrapers

replying to u/FramboiseDorleac: Shrieks of horror will arrive soon, but the Russian Tea Room is open until 11pm. Nearer to LC, Cafe Fiorello is usually the choice for any post opera celebrating. For fine dining in New York, that time is death, unfortunately.

replying to u/sspecialists: I wouldn't go there at all. In Manhattan, if you just want the vibes, Mari Vanna is better and more fun, day of visit dependent. In Manhattan, if you want to try Russian dishes, I would go to the Russian Vodka Room or Russian Samovar.
