replying to u/rvdsn: I mean I suppose this is true for those on trend spots but a lot of the classic New York establishments are not a terribly tough res. Like Gramercy Tavern or Union Square Cafe. But also what neighborhood? I used to live in UES. So many casual spots. And this is pretty much true in most of Manhattan. We were obsessed with the UES Tolache location. Fantastic food and pretty easy to get a table.

replying to u/atyppo: Went to Superbueno (ie $25 cocktails with tax/tip) the other night after hearing so much about it and thinking the huitlacoche margarita sounded really interesting. I can't put into words how incredibly mediocre it was. Person I went with got a green mango martini, which was equally uninspiring. They tasted like drinks a bartender "trying to learn mixology" at an Outback in Indianapolis would make, not something from one of the supposedly best cocktail bars in NYC right now. They lacked any notes of flavor. This is not to mention the standing room seating we were put into at a table that moved across the room every time someone leaned against it.

replying to u/Style-Upstairs: there’s a slightly high-end Mexican place near the Met called Toloache that’s pretty good, but nothing famous or iconic. they have a midtown location too. Also second Noz market, known for their unique japanese ice cream flavors.
