replying to u/MurrayPloppins: I’ve tried a bunch of OP’s list, and my favorite thing about Somtum Der is that it’s so distinct from most of the rest of these. Isan dishes are still Thai of course, but they play with funky and sour flavors in a way that I rarely see in other places. The Super Peek Gai at Somtum Der is one of my favorite soups in the city, though the burn always makes me regret it. That said, I also love Fish Cheeks and TD and Soothr and Pranakhon. Many good choices.

replying to u/Loud-Bodybuilder4342: Decent place but not even the best in Manhattan and not even close to the rest of NYC. Manhattan: Chalong and Tha Praya are much better. Queens: Elmhurst Thai is as good as most places I went to in Bangkok. Brooklyn: Kaew Jao Jorm and Ugly Baby (RIP although I heard they opened a new place called Hungry Thirsty but I havent tried)
