replying to u/ImDaChineze: Generally speaking I like Chong Qing Lao Zao or Hai Di Lao more than I like Dolar Shop. CQLZ is max level authentic and incredible all around. Any fancy place will likely be maximum level overpriced and sacrifice a lot of flavor for the sake of having dumb menu items.

replying to u/tivo713: Its been a while since I've had an XLB and like I'm still suprised theres no DTF in new york. I thought they were good but yes definitely not on par with the old kung fu. At that point in the day and everyone being so full, it was a toss up for us between Nan Xiang and Shanghai You Garden. We chose the one we had to walk the least... lol

LaoMa Malatang in New World Mall is a great place to do mala dry pot since you mentioned like szechuan PanBao in the same food court is good for fried soup dumplings. Honestly you'll be able to find handpulled noodles and dumplings there as well. HaiDiLao for really good hot pot and A++ customer service and experience. When you order the handpulled noodles they come out and pull it/dance in front of you. Xiang 73 - heard this place was good hot pot also, and is newer, in the recently opened Tangram mall. White Bear - lots of ppl know about this place now, good fore their chili oil wontons. RIP TianJin dumpling house, my favorite dumplings in Flushing. They were right across the street from the library, and has reopened under a different name, not sure if they're good though but the address is 41-41 Kissena Blvd, Queens, NY 11355. Other than that place I think lots of people like Northern Dumpling King I was gonna say Szechuan mountain house but don't know of a great alternative as my parents always steered away from spicy food. JuQi if you're looking for an elevated peking duck/ Chinese food experience with artistic presentations. Shanghai You Garden for soup dumplings and shanghainese food. Gong Gan for Korean/asian flavor desserts that are super beautiful, and a great selection of unique cafe/mocktail drinks and croisants. Asian Jewels for dim sum. I could honestly go on an…

replying to u/flugtard: Not really “weird” but fun- conveyor belt sushi in Jersey City? Kura Revolving Sushi Also maybe Haidilao hot pot in Flushing? It’s maybe “weird” in a voyueristic way if you’re not asian or chinese. Im chinese and that place literally feels like China. It’s huge, there’s soft serve, they give you bibs for eating and the bathrooms are stocked with little extras like flossers, mouthwash and hair ties. My favorite: if you order hand pulled noodles they pull it in front of you at the table in a theatrical way.
