replying to u/levu12: That's pretty unfortunate, I know it's a chain so the experiences can vary, I had a good time in Southern California but haven't tried the NYC locations yet, it's so expensive... However, I prefer other JBBQ or KBBQ more, Gyu-Kaku I feel like is just not enough value for the price it commands. For that much I'd much rather go to Cote and get the Butcher's Feast ($74). Even back in California I preferred Shinobu Japanese BBQ, which is literally 30-40% cheaper and just as good, maybe even better. I wish they had one here :( For best value AYCE I would recommend KPOT Korean BBQ & Hot Pot in Downtown Brooklyn. It's $32 for Dinner and $22 for Lunch, you can get both Hot Pot and BBQ for $5 more. While it's of course a budget option, there is still prepackaged ice cream and the meat is pretty decent, the limit is also 2 hours. I don't know any AYCE that is cheaper besides GEN. Last time I had GEN in NYC, it was pretty ok, but I prefer KPOT. If you don't want to go to Brooklyn, or just want to try both, I would also recommend it. I believe it's $25 for Lunch and $31 for Dinner. Again if you want something fancy I would just go to Cote. Hyun is too much wagyu...

replying to u/u8all-my-rice: It’s a chain so you may already be familiar with it, but if you aren’t your kids may enjoy Gyu-Kaku, Japanese self-grilling (and you can order s’mores at the end). Also, Din Tai Fung for dim sum and Lovely’s Old Fashioned for burgers and Onion Rings (and fries but I cannot get over the onion rings). Pio Pio for Peruvian roast chicken, I could drink the green sauce and don’t sleep on the Jalea (cows heart skewers and corn from South America for adventurous kids). Kashkaval for Mediterranean and fondue. If you’re willing to walk, there are a few cute spots down the river, including the Pier 62 carousel, Pier 57 open space and eateries, Little Island Park right next door (very cute little park over the Hudson River with spectacular views), which is all fairly close to the High Line. Have a great trip!
