We don't have a very strong "sushi-ya" culture, which is what you are looking for. That being said, you would like Sushi on Jones, Tomoe21, Tanoshii Sushi, and Osakana.

replying to u/Happy__Parsnip: I would not recommend Whole Foods or Wegmans for seafood. I made a trip to that new location to see what the fuss was about but nothing stood out. Just an objectively worse Whole Foods. I know you said "other than Chinatown" but I want to convince you to reconsider because the best location in the city, bang for your buck, is Aqua Best. Get the 4lb box of frozen head on shrimp, it's like... 26 bucks, an insane deal with very high quality shrimp. To get that level of quality you would need to go somewhere like Citarella(the option for you if you're a no Chinatown absolutist). The problem is you'll pay at least 8 times as much for similar. Your call.

replying to u/virtual_adam: I usually do Mitsuwa but the new Wegmans in the EV blows it out of the water. I was there last week and there is a separate fish counter for “regular” Wegmans, then a separate one with at least 15-20 options flown in from Japan, including super cheap trimmings that Mitsuwa doesn’t offer. The price per pound was also significantly cheaper, but the portions are a lot bigger. Mitsuwa offers some stuff in like a tenth of a pound which is nice My gut tells me there’s no way it’s sustainable and won’t be there a year from now. So I’m utilizing it while it’s still there
