replying to u/0hmyscience: How was Tavern on the Green? The Infatuation likes to remind us somewhat often that it is their lowest rated restaurant. I've always figured they're exaggerating, and it's a bit of a joke by now, but I've never heard of anyone going.

replying to u/mrs_david_silva: Bouley. It was last century and restaurant week so we should have known better. Their vegetarian substitutions were three courses of potato side dishes. The restaurant in that spot now, Scalini Fedeli, is excellent Tuscan that’s very accommodating and IMO underloved.

replying to u/mzito: Neither of them are worth eating at. Overpriced stuff optimized for catering. Much better off eating someplace in your neighborhood, or if you want a destination view, Manhatta or River Cafe (or Saga, but i've never eaten there, I've just heard it's beautiful.

replying to u/Mundane_Professor596: This is my own fault…but Tavern on the Green. I know the food is notoriously bad, but I thought how bad can it be? I hadn’t been in years. The place was beautifully decorated for Christmas, the service was good and it was close to Lincoln Center. The food was actually appalling. Like you could get better at any chain restaurant. Garlic shrimp could’ve been a frozen microwave meal. Crab cake was flavorless, mostly mayo and deep fried. Short ribs were literally 2 cold hard cubes. Lamb chops were tiny and served with unseasoned burned potato slices, onions and whole watercress (not even cut or dressed). It was impressively bad. And expensive. Still, would I go back? Yes, probably. It is just that pretty. I’ll eat beforehand.

replying to u/HomeboddE: UWS Saperavi is Interesting and different. Nice Matin has nice indoor/outdoor but rather generic. Leyla is a nice spot as is Elea. For older people sometimes noise can be an issue otherwise I would recommend Dagon. Ayat higher up is good with nice sunny outdoor seating, inside a bit cramped. Miriam is comfortable. Pier i might be fun especially in the evening. Food not the greatest but not bad. Tacern on the green garden is nice for outdoors food just ok. Hope they have a nice time!

It's touristy as fuck, but a certain generation and a certain demographic gets impressed by the vibes in the outdoor seating at Tavern on the Green around sunset when they have live music. If they have a bit more of a refined palate and are looking for a more off-the-beaten-path suggestion, try narrowing down a neighborhood or cuisine type.
