  • Javelina has the best classic, “not fancy but good enough to use fresh lime juice” frozen margs in the city IMO.

  • Javelina on the UES and Union Square is my favorite among the few options. I prefer the white queso!

  • replying to u/fromtexastonyc: 100% do not take to Mexican of any kind. It will be disappointing and expensive. Go Mediterranean. A fave upscale Mediterranean spot for me is Ilili

True, the only place we have found that comes close is Javelina. No one else knows about queso!

  • replying to u/slow_cyclist512: They’re not in fishbowls but I’m from central Texas and Javelina has the best classic, “not fancy but good enough to use fresh lime juice” frozen margs in the city IMO. Closest thing to the frozen margs I could get in TX. I will prob get downvoted for saying this cuz javelinas food is only “just good enough” and there are so many nice/hip/modern/authentic/great Mexican spots in the city, but this is THE marg you’re looking for IMO and I’ve tried every marg I can get my hands on since I’ve lived here. Their queso is also the closest thing to home I’ve been able to find and chips and salsa are free.

It’s the best queso either of us have found so far

Completely agree javelina is the best. Their Queso is solid but will say they are hit or miss on things like fajitas and sides
