“Kalustyan’s is great but I think it's pricier for spices and stuff compared to, e.g. Patel brothers in Jackson heights. They have the food counter upstairs though, which is awesome.”

We have Trader Joe's and Whole Foods here in Michigan, but not stores like Kalustyan's, Eataly, or any of the shops in Chinatown. Based on everything I've seen in this sub, the diversity in food is much greater in NYC, so I'm looking for things that I can't necessarily get at home. I guess I should reword my question to ask, are there any niche shelf stable food items you purchase in NYC that you can't get most other places? If so, where do you buy these things?
