replying to u/thansal: The sorta usual culprits might look like: * Hi-Collar or Bar Moga for yoshoku (Japanese Westerner food). Hi-Collar is a lovely coffee shop during the day, and Bar Moga's cocktail service is wonderful. Moga is one of the few places that does the [Tampopo style omurice](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tVgKccixIhQ). * Sake Bar Decibel - divy bar w/ snacks * Katsu-Hama - great katsu and good curry * Sunrise Mart and Katagiri for ready to eat lunches. Both are nice Japanese grocery stores that do pre-made lunch things. I've heard good things about Sunrise's sandwiches, and I love the gyudon from Katagiri. Katagiri is also one of the better options for rice balls. * Okiboru house of tsukemen - people say they like it better than TabeTomo, but I haven't been yet. * Kenka - been around forever. * Flippers, Taiyaki NYC or Eggcellent soufflés pancake for souffle pancakes (the giant fluffy things, Hi-Collar doesn't serve them, they just have tall pancakes). Not my favorite thing, but worth trying once. Yakitori was covered elsewhere.

replying to u/Snoo-18544: Hi-Collar a Japanese Cafe is known for their Japanese style pancakes (not soufle, but thincker and fluffier than your typical). They also have one of the most unique coffee programs. This are lunch/brunch items though. Clinton street bakery which is on houston, literally across from East Village is known fro some of the best traditional style pancakes. Warning the latter is tourist famous, so you either want a resaervation or go on an off peak. Its good place to walk into for a late lunxh on wednesday if you live in EV and work from home some times. BBF,, which is also LES (houston/orchard) has French Toast made with Japanesae Milk Bread.
