replying to u/Precious_marimo: I still love Tai Pan for their Portuguese egg tarts. I know you don’t want sit down but Maxi’s Noodle 3 comes out quick and has some good wonton noodle soup. Noodle Village is legit too. Can consider it. Someone mentioned Chang Lai for HK style rice rolls. Can get with curry fishballs or pig skin (my personal fave). Ask for extra sweet sauce and peanut butter. Chinatown Ice Cream factory. I usually order almond cookie, lychee, mango, or red bean. Classic flavors. Hay Hay Roasted and get a small order of char siu (over rice) to go. These are all pretty close to Mei Lai Wah.

Can make an argument for “anywhere you get them fresh.” So far contenders are: Manna One (Catherine St) Double crispy bakery Harper’s Bread House - I stopped by here in the AM and got a fresh batch, loved the jamminess of the filling and the flaky warm exterior! Also, in Flushing, now that New Flushing Bakery has shut its doors 😭
