I actually needed to put the burger down to contemplate about how great it was. If Proust had this burger instead of some stupid cookie, he would have written 12,000 pages.

replying to u/charcoalist: Donovan's in Woodside if you don't mind venturing into the boroughs. It's really not that far from midtown and checks all of your boxes. Add some Coleman's mustard to it. Donovan's is also my personal favorite, as someone who's probably a bit too obsessed with burgers. Red Hook Tavern was probably the overall best in the city that I've had, but it is a very simple burger. I was disappointed with Emily's burger. Super long wait and lots of gristle in the meat. The flavor was otherwise unremarkable. Loved the burger at Nowon. Haven't been to Au Cheval but it's on my list. Bareburger sucks, sorry you ate there lol. Minetta's Tavern was also a let down for me, definitely not worth the price. The burger was good, but for that aged meat patty, Red Hook Tavern was better. The Peter Luger's burger is also excellent, and is what the Red Hook Tavern based their burger on.

replying to u/MotorDrag9820: Alright I’m willing to have a conversation here because of your enthusiasm…I actually HATED Donovan’s for multiple reasons, the burger being the least of it. 1) the service was ass. it wasn’t even busy, but my server was just dismissive and non attentive (literally felt I was inconveniencing her by asking for a beer). I ordered the burger and a few minutes later after realizing I wasn’t asked if I wanted fries or onion rings, I asked her for onion rings and she rolled her eyes 2) the beer list was wack 3) the “FRIES” are wedges 4) the burger was massive and maybe that’s just not my style but I didn’t find it redeeming at all so I left with a pretty bad taste in my mouth & returning for the supposed renown burger doesn’t sound like a good use of my money….but, what burger did you order? lol
