  • the nene's in bushwick is great. tacos fresh off the grill, tortillas still crispy but steaming from the inside with the melted cheese and birria, dunk in the paper cup of consomme, nothing better

I love Nene's birria and order from them almost every week but I am not a fan of their birria pizza; the ratio of cheese to meat to tortilla is way off. It's a fun idea but not a great execution IMO.

  • The only thing that has truly replicated the California Mexican experience for me is Nene’s Taqueria. 3.75 a taco with homemade corn tortillas.

  • replying to u/taytay451: Nene’s taqueria isn’t underrated per say but it’s delicious and quite affordable. Quesadillas are generous sizes and $10. Biria platters come with rice, beans, Guacamole and either tortilla or chips for $15. I normally get 2 meals out of that one.

You will shit your pants and feel horrible for hours if you get their birria pizza. It’s also worth it.

Nene’s is better than Birrialandia IMO

Their birria pizza destroys my stomach but it tastes so good that I don’t even care

  • replying to u/DanielfromHK: Will have to try it again next time! I read about volcanes on here but ordered the traditional taco so that they are more comparable with the other shops

Definitely next time! Try Nene’s birria tacos too next time while you are in the neighborhood.

Nene’s is the best I’ve had in NYC.

  • replying to u/bushwickbuds: Nene’s Taqueria Taco Tuesdays. $2/ea for quesabirria taco, and if you buy 6 of them you get a free cup of consome. $12 gets you a lot of food.

Nene’s cheesy birria burritos have no right being so good, incredible spot

Nene's is BOMB. Love the lengua burrito.

  • replying to u/Infinite_Carpenter: Nenes remains superior to both. They have three tacos and a drink for $10 on Tuesdays.

They're known for birria which I like, but it is much different from al pastor

  • I usually order anything but the birria at Nene's since I find theirs overly salty (and I say that as a salt fiend). My husband thinks their birria is good, though, so to each their own.

their meat isn’t really that tender, they give you a lot but it’s very cheery.

  • Nene's Taqueria/Nene's Deli Taqueria for Birria in Brooklyn (I like the deli location for no frills. Get the Nene's Deluxe combo - a birria empanada, taco and mulita with the consome).

their mushroom burrito was pretty impressive. I wasn’t transported to the Mission or anything. But I think it might be as close as I’ve found in the City

Nenes and even Maya are more flavorful and same price

  • Nene's really hits the spot for me, personally. Not 100% California style but they put fries inside.

  • Awesome addition to the neighborhood. Just had a lengua quesadilla and some Al pastor tacos, and I’ve enjoyed their Cali style burrito (bc it still has rice and beans lol).

My verdict is that Nene’s has slightly better tacos and Birria-Landia has slightly better consommé. (Emphasis on the “slightly” in both cases.) But honestly there’s no bad choice here. Both are among the top 5 tacos I’ve ever had in the city.
