Also, bonus points for getting onions in sauce for your hotdog, I still find it so weird that it's a NYC (mainly) condiment. Thoughts? Things that really stood out to you? Favorite bite/drink? Katana Kitten is great, though half of that is stellar staff I think.

replying to u/smol-meow: I could be wrong, but try Paris Baguette. I realize it's a chain, but there's something about their coffee that's really delicious. I don't drink espresso straight, but I do drink coffee, Americano, and macchiato without sugar, so I'm not coming from the perspective of someone that drinks all those crazy sugary coffees. I do know what you mean about that gross sour flavor, which I've heard usually comes from an incomplete extraction at a temp that's too high. I think a lot of places just have their settings turned all the way up to handle volume, but they lose out on quality. I notice most places have espresso machines that do very fast extractions, rather than real espresso, which does take a minute or two to get the crema and full flavor.

replying to u/AvailableFalconn: I think the main thing for shokupan is turnover. If it’s sitting there a few days, it’s gonna start to get dry and stale. My local paris baguette has decent turnover, so the bread is never sitting there for days. The texture is pretty perfect. My local regular grocer also has shokupan, but i noticed it was kind of dry when I purchased it. Maybe try a busier Paris Baguette. The Hmart on Northern might also be a good option.
