replying to u/whtsabagginses: Context: I've gone to the place twice this year and the best I can describe it is... "meh". Vibes were cold in the bar. There are way better Mexican restaurants and way better Mexican-inspired cocktails out in NYC, but this place has been winning awards left and right. Am I missing something? Am I not going at the right time? Is there a specific drink that's blowing it out of the water?

replying to u/Smenderhoff: I thought the vibes were good, the drinks were good, and the food was good. It’s just lacking that pretentious quality that plagues most cocktail bars in NYC, and that might be throwing you. Nothing about it is complicated while it’s happening; it’s straightforward in a way that can be disorienting and while the ceiling might be lower than some places for overall experience, the floor is accordingly quite high. All that in mind it’s nowhere near the top of my list, I gravitate towards pomp and pretension, but I can understand why people like it. It’s a breath of fresh air in the scene. Its accessible! It’s friendly! It’s not dark! It doesn’t have an esoteric name like “William’s Anus” or “Desk Letters” or whatever! It’s just a nice place that I’d go back to

replying to u/Juicebomb35: Exactly I went to Superbueno and thought “wow this place definitely bought their way onto the top of the list” and then I went to DCP and thought I had the most unique drinking experience of my life. Had four people, ordered all 12 cocktails and passed them around and also got a chicken sandwich and their bolognese sandwich. Incredible. I waited a little over three hours but just went to a nearby bar to pass the time.

It's much, much better than the generally sugary or just kinda goofy main menu. Superbueno is my actual answer here. Batching stuff is fine, but batching plus slow service is a head scratcher, the menu is incredibly limited on top of that, and the atmosphere they're cultivating inside is just... weird. Is it a party or a serious cocktail lounge where you're meant to be able to have a conversation? It's trying to do both and achieving neither because the space is just too small.
