Kanyakumari

9.1/10Indian

AI-generated summary

Regional coastal South Indian, and pricey for it. The malvani chicken and are the dishes people name most, and the vada pav gets called the best in the city. The has its own fans. Portions run small for the price. Some South Indian diners say Semma does it better, but plenty rank this at the top.

  • replying to u/Interesting_Common54: Indian Accent, Kanyakumari, Jalsa and Angel are my favorites. Semma, Gupshup, Dhamaka, Junoon, Masalawala and Sons are not worth going to For Indochinese Wok in the clouds is the best I've had, but it's not mindblowing. Better than spice symphony IMO. I've heard good things about Vatan and Indian Table but haven't been to either

As a South Indian, I really enjoyed Kanyakumari. Very authentic representation of regional South Indian meat dishes.

The veggie stew tasted like canned soup. And the friend chicken was more oily than crispy. Maybe I went on a really off night but it was disappointing.

  • The curries were cold and they just added way too many spices to coconut cream. The beef was good though. But the quality of fish, and even sides like appam was not good.

  • Both are really good, but I’d say Gupshup is a bit more in line with what folks think of as Indian food here in the states, and Kanyakumari is definitely more unique and regional.

  • Kanyakumari has many good dishes, but what actually stuck with me for a long time was the curry leaf ice cream.
