replying to u/wdrub: Everyone telling you to go to Brooklyn means well but you’re traveling with a bunch of kids. It’s tough. In midtown there’s some more commercial options like tony dinapoli and carmines which again are commercial. John’s of 12th, I know it sounds touristy but you’re looking for a red sauce joint. Danico or il Cortile in little Italy (I know). Are fine.

replying to u/BatVivid9633: A few months ago, an old coworker visited town and really wanted to go to Carmine's on 44th Street. I rolled my eyes, expecting the worst, but it turned out to be quite decent. The service was great, and while the food wasn't the best Italian I've ever had, it was still very good. The restaurant was packed, but the friendly staff managed to find us a table for eight with only a 30-minute wait, which is impressive for NYC without a reservation. Additionally, the prices weren't outrageous, especially by New York standards.
