It's a supermarket with a hot and cold bar, priced by weight, and people say you can eat well for around $10. Get the plov, the samsa, and the , which gets cut off a real spit instead of a filler loaf. Regulars say the Brighton Beach store is much better stocked than the small West Village one.

  • Their salat olivie is REALLY fucking good, usually the store made stuff doesn't come close to homemade but theirs is a major exception. I also love their plov as well as the Korean carrot salad.

  • Tashkent market in the west village has by farrr the best prepared food section by a long shot. Lots of really fresh vegetables and Russian style dumplings and meats. The variety is honestly insane and the prices are beyond reasonable.

  • I really like the cold shrimp salad, starts with an R, I can’t recall the name that was listed. Large shrimp, celery and red onion and it’s in a white sauce….dont think it’s mayo, it’s more flavorful and thicker than that. They had a crispy eggplant and arugula salad that was really good as well.

  • They have steam tables galore filled with delicious, prepared central Asian food, much of which is priced by weight. I often eat very well there for under $10/visit

  • The plov was as good as what you’d find in Uzbekistan, and I really liked their perashki. The meat dishes were also solid.

  • Incredible place. You can definitely get a decent meal by getting less than a pound from the salad bar.

  • replying to u/Choth21: You may want to visit Tashkent which is in Greenwich Village. It’s an Uzbek market with a large prepared food section. For farmers markets, the Union Square one is the biggest so that should be enough. All others will be smaller and not really that different than other markets. You could also try going to Chinatown or Ktown to visit the grocery stores there. There’s always Queens, Brooklyn and the Bronx if you want to venture further out. In terms of large markets, I haven’t been to the ones in Dallas, but I would guess they’re similar. If you’re going to Ktown, there’s an H Mart there anyway. And the first Eataly in the U.S. is at Madison Square Park which is a short walk from Union Square. Note: NYC doesn’t have a Mitsuwa. The closest Mitsuwa is in Edgewater, NJ and there is a free shuttle bus from Port Authority if you want to go there.

I LOVE TASHKENT their hot and cold bar is amazing
