“I agree. Atera is always recommended here so I went and was disappointed. Weird ambiance (they played Rebecca Black...? And other loud hits), every dish had foam, which I find boring. Nothing bad but nothing memorable either.”
“We went in December and had a great meal. The experience is certainly unique, but that’s what made it memorable. We thought the food was excellent and the wine pairing was great. The trout, kingfish , and halibut were top notch.”
“Worth it: atera, Ko, gramercy tavern”
“this was undoubtedly the most underwhelming 2-star Michelin restaurant we have been to. None of the ingredient pairings seemed to match and we were constantly thinking to ourselves that each dish was significantly average; not a single dish stood out to us, including the desserts.”
“This is the same restaurant that looked at my wife and I in bewilderment and borderline condescension when we asked if they provide half wine pairings. I'm not surprised.”
“Atera and Cesar had great food and the service was good/polite but a lot more formal than what you're looking for I think.”
“I did find them overrated and overpriced compared to other Michelin star restaurants. It just didn't feel like they didn't do anything unique beyond standard modern American fare, even though it was elevated to a Michelin level to some extent.”
“The only places I can think of where the techniques are really put “on display” these days are Atera (well over your budget) and to some degree Dirt Candy, which will have a vegan option.”
“The food was good—better than Shake Shack, worse than Atera.”
“Atera — black currant and beet (NA pairing drink)”

“Went last night, downstairs room. Was at the long table for 4. Was pretty great overall, good service down there, very friendly, chatty, attentive.”
“Atera has a good non alcoholic drink pairing.”
“The open kitchen/counter seating is amazing. And the best music playlists at and starred place I’ve been to.”
“The food was amazing and so was the non alcoholic pairing because they make the bulk of their own drinks.”
“I agree. I thought their menu played it way too safe and their portions were tiny. Their nonalcoholic pairing was excellent, though.”
“I loved Atera and thought the chef’s counter (and overall smaller setting) made for a very personalized dining experience”
“Atera was excellent but I don't know if I would go back. Something is just not quite as good from an atmosphere/vibe as compared to the others above.”
“Atera might feel a bit more exclusive and had the most incredible temperance pairing I’ve ever had.”
“Atera’s temperance pairing has insanely good and creative non-alcoholic cocktails.”
“I would say that the wine at Atera is stellar (didn't do the pairing)”
“I would check out Atera which I think is the best restuarant in NYC, cooler and more casual then the jackets requried places, but not too out there food wise.”
“We celebrated my dad’s retirement at atera, which has a great NA pairing. I can’t say it’s my fav 2-star meal but the pairing was really fun.”
“Atera (**) has a fantastic wine list, and an intimate setting. It’s not quite in the standard circuit, but well worth the trip!”
“The food was some of the best I have had.”
“They are all great. Out of those, Atera will be the most expensive and also the most experimental.”
“I did the temperance pairing once, and I loved it. One of the drinks was a No-groni, there was also a "Bordeaux" made of beets, and some fantastic dessert cocktail.”
“Atera is one of my fave for private dining but it's mainly for food and less of a trendy vibe (their private room is located in the basement so not exactly a vibe).”
“I’m surprised no one has said Atera - it’s cool with the u-shaped counter! I love when it feels like dinner and a show”
“Atera is my all time favorite in NYC, been there several times and it’s such a cool experience. Very friendly, I recommend the chef’s counter seating (that’s their main seating area).”
“God we had Atera a few weeks ago and I was underwhelmed. I loved the N/A pairings, they were absolutely the highlight, but the overall food felt lackluster”
“Also, the service is excellent. I have always gotten the wine pairing and have never been disappointed”
