  • replying to u/ponybluemoon: I get why everyone is trying to dunk on Hillstone/Houston’s. However, over my lifetime, I have been to this franchise probably near 100 times. I have had one, single meal that missed in quality and delivery the entire time. That’s pretty impressive to me. There is a lot to be said for consistency, especially when it’s consistently delicious for what it is.

Not once have I walked away complaining about anything. Their Thai tuna roll is fire, the French Dip is legend, the veggie burger can’t be replicated and the Hawaiian ribeye is next level. But my favorite thing is how they give you a frosty martini glass midway through your martini so it stays extra cold. They’re just my go-to and the reason I will never talk down about chain restaurants.

  • replying to u/drpepperesq: Hillstone. It’s faux fancy for adults but would look fancy for a kid, accessible menu for little kids. Open-ish kitchen.

Second this. Little one can enjoy more accessible foods like chips and artichoke dip, handhelds, and the Osaka style sushi roll. Parent can enjoy a CRISP martini shaken and poured tableside and maybe a steak or the salmon. I am a huge fan of Hillstone for mommy-daughter days

  • But the Hawaiian at Hillstone is absolutely sublime. It's a beautiful ribeye marinated in a soy-pineapple glaze, which creates a most wonderful sear. Their sides are way more interesting and delicious than your generic steakhouse specials.

It's nothing compared to the original at Philippe's. Their "jus" is basically just salty water with beef bouillon added.

  • Hillstone has a great menu, is consistent (that’s a big one anymore) has tons of options - not just Italian and pasta like every other restaurant in the city - and the service is great.
