Dhamaka

5.2/10Indian

AI-generated summary

This one splits people hard. Fans go for the beef pepper fry and the housemade paneer, which some call the best in the city. Critics say the is oversalted and everything is spicy for the sake of it. The room is loud, portions are small for the price, and you have to order everything at once.

  • I wouldn't mind so much, if their food lived up to it. But it really doesn't. Their biryani was so salty that I had to take a big gulp of water after every bite and had to stop eating it all the way through. I LOVE salt, but this was just botched.

  • If you haven’t been to Dhamaka in a while, go check it out!! They updated the menu again and it’s got some incredibly bold, complex, spicy flavors (which makes sense given that “dhamaka” means “explosion” in Hindi).

  • Food was all very spicy and expensive, but didn’t have much flavor variety. Service was slow and not attentive. Generally I walked away pretty dissatisfied and I’d never go back for what they charge.

  • The food was good - we love and eat Indian all the time and this was among the best I’ve had. The dal and goat curry were standouts.

  • Paneer methi. Their housemade paneer is so soft like silken tofu. I’ve never had paneer like it at other restaurants.

  • I enjoyed Dhamaka in the summer when they had the outdoor space but I have to say that the flavor profile just wasn’t for me — like the goat biryani was quite gamey and heavy.

  • replying to u/Human-Progress7526: i feel like there's a specific group of people who really love the style of food dhamaka is making and then everyone else has moved on after going once and not really liking it. for some reason that first group is intent on convincing everyone else that it's good??

For the record, I loved Dhamaka. Particularly the biryani, which I found flavorful, rich and not at all too salty.

  • replying to u/superangry2: Dhamaka is spicy for the sake of being spicy and can turn into more of an ordeal than a meal. Ugly baby is similar.

Yes. Did not like. And my entree had so much spice in it that it was gritty. Like eating gravel. Not great.

  • replying to u/QuesoDelDiablos: This really looks like a very lazy PR plant. It doesn't help that Dhamaka is noted for having an extremely active PR campaign. Their biryani was so salty that I had to take a big gulp of water after every bite and had to stop eating it all the way through. I LOVE salt, but this was just botched. As was the big chicken meatball thingy that was sitting in a curry with maybe a half inch of just grease on the top.

I love Indian food but found dhamaka inedible because of the salt level. If you've ever bought a chili relish condiment in a jar (like patak's), every bite was as salty as that.
