Bubby'sCHAIN

5.2/10American

AI-generated summary

People fight about the pancakes. Some call them fluffy and great, others say they're dry and flavorless for $24. The biscuits get near universal praise, and the comes up again and again. Go on a weekday when you can get a reservation instead of standing in the weekend line.

  • tbh my favorite pancakes is still from golden diner which imo is fluffier whereas this is more dense. prob just personal preference. not sure i'd go back unless i have friends/family visiting lol

  • replying to u/fafabull: I go to Bubby’s often since I’m nearby but absolutely never when there’s a line because it’s not worth it (so essentially never on a weekend). The pancakes, I can’t give an opinion on because I don’t care for pancakes in general but I love their biscuits and hatch chili gravy. Dinner is usually solid and sometimes I’ll pop in with a friend just to chat over some hot chocolate and fries. I will say the BEST steak that I have ever had in my life was a filet mignon dinner special at Bubby’s some random weeknight 8 years ago that I still think about sometimes.

I live not that far either, but this place is so over rated. I took the kids a few years ago and a very pricey chicken tenders meal came with three tenders on a small plate and nothing else.

  • I was pretty let down - the peanut butter chocolate was the best of the bunch and it was nice to see banoffee on a menu, but the fruit pies were pretty blah, and in particular, all the crusts were just not very good, no flaky crusts here.

  • replying to u/anthonystank: I haven’t been to Bubby’s but 1) the pancakes look great and 2) it always annoys me when they just sprinkle chocolate chips over the top 😡 I know it’s a little bit more work to cook them in the pancake but they should be melty!!!

the pancakes were meh. They were really dry, especially on the button, and seemed like they were made in advance and just reheated. Not worth the price or the trip.

  • The pancakes really were absolutely fantastic. Warm, soft but with a bite, delicious. Coffee great. Chicken awesome. I enjoyed it.

  • replying to u/GottaGetJam: Bubby’s. Overrated pancakes and tables squeezed so close together you can’t move your elbows without hitting someone, all with loud obnoxious music blaring. Also when I went with a companion who is black we got subpar service compared to the all-white tables around us (same server), so that’s a ding, but that also tends to happen at other restaurants I go to with this person, so racism is (obviously) not just a Bubby’s problem 🙃 Also got food poisoning at Modern Love, a vegan restaurant in Williamsburg that closed last year, and the owner was not very nice when I reached out to let them know.

Every time I’ve gone (as a white patron) the service is clinical at best, no checking in and had to catch an eye to get more wine etc which you think theyd want to run up the tab but they’re actually robots.

  • replying to u/paintingporcelain: Got a BLT from Bubby’s 20 plus years ago. It was over $18. Bacon. Lettuce. Tomato. Never been back. I see the lines out there all the time. I don’t mind paying and I’m not cheap but I hate getting fucked.

But that was trash. No butter, not salt, no nothing cooked into the pancakes. I felt played. And then the bananas tasted like nothing.
