“The crab cake and avocado crab louis appetizers were really good — I think MFG restaurants like this (and Carbone) do salad right. I was disappointed they ran out of Prime rib, but I got their Porterhouse instead. It was a little overcooked, and it was surprisingly just decent.”

I've only been once (maybe 2 or 3 years ago at this point) and while I had such a great experience, no one dish in particular stood out. I think I was in awe and just swept up in the moment. It's such a beautiful setting. I too am old fashioned. I remember how beautiful the bar is. Unfortunately I'm male, so hopefully the mens bathroom has an equally good mirror for selfies. Can't wait to go back. Also, you're a great writer and I read some of your other comments, you are very funny.

“Quality, service, and ambience at the Grill are all great, but you should think of it as a great restaurant that serves (very good) steaks, and not a true "steakhouse," which connotes a very specific vibe and menu and experience. If you want a "steakhouse" I would recommend Keens (I have not been to Delmonicos). If you just want a great restaurant that has steaks (along w lots of other delicious foods) The Grill is a great bet.”

replying to u/Smart_Freedom_8155: Hey! So as luck would have it, I'm actually being taken to The Grill next week as an early Christmas treat of sorts. My go-to order would be the Porterhouse for 2 as that's my favorite cut of steak - but I saw that the Prime Rib is singled out on their menu, as a special item with table-side carving etc. What do you figure: go with the Porterhouse (for $285, kinda feel guilty for ordering it almost), or order the Prime Rib as it's their specialty? Any other must-try items, do you figure? It all sounds amazing, including the Duck Pasta etc.
