CarboneCHAIN

3.5/10Italian

AI-generated summary

People argue about this one. The , and carpaccio get real praise, and the service comes up as the best part of the night. The other half says it's ordinary red sauce Italian at several times the price, and $95 for the veal parmesan is the number they point to. Regulars say go at lunch, it's slower and you don't get rushed.

  • The appetizers and pasta were amazing. Great ingredients, well cooked, no complaints. The pork chops and veggies sides, however, were mediocre.

  • they are famous for a reason and we thought their staple dishes were outstanding. Except the meatballs, they had a strong sausage flavour and the meat was more chunky and not as grounded up as we typically prefer.

  • Went to Carbone and hated it. So pretentious, got a steak that was riddled with fat and they were so offended I asked for another steak that the chef came out to “talk” with me.

Fatty meatball. Coarse grind. Yes - good things. But too salty. And trust me, I like salt. But kind of showed lack of care.

The food really isn’t special - it’s well made Italian red sauce dishes. Carbone imo isn’t about the food as much as the prestige and reputation. I’d never go there to have an outstanding meal.

I went there with a connected friend earlier this year and it was HORRIBLE. The menu, ambiance, service, etc was all the same but the food was garbage. Overcooked pasta and bland flavors (even the once "spicy" rigatoni).

  • Carbone is overhyped but also a very cool atmosphere and solid food - only you and your husband can determine whether it fits in with your priorities for this visit to NYC but if you do go ahead with it and eat shellfish, I highly recommend getting the lobster fra diavolo.
