“I finally got around to trying Los Tacos 1 and it does in fact, deserve the hype! Really juicy al pastor meat and tasty handmade tortillas (both corn and flour). Very authentic in both its food and atmosphere.”
“I’m from Texas, surrounded by all kinds of Mexican, and this was outstanding. Meat cooked without being overly chewy, and the salsa!! I love spice and this had the perfect heat.”
“There is absolutely no grounds to hate on los tacos ever. They do literally everything from scratch.”
“Los Tacos No. 1 is by far the best taco I have had in NYC, and among the best tacos I have had anywhere for flavor of the meat and the quality of freshly made tortillas.”
“The "hype" taco at Los Tacos is the adobada aka the al pastor. The rest of the tacos are solid but the al pastor is the thing to get.”
“I always thought the chicken tacos in Los Tacos is pretty underwhelming and kind of dry.. The beef taco isn't that great either but the adodaba (pork) is the only thing that hits the spot”
“You know what, it was bloody brilliant. We had all the types of taco plus chips and guac, washed down in the sun with some spicy margs and beer. One of my favourite meals of the entire trip”
“They're good, but not blow you away good, and they're way more expensive than you'd pay for them in TX or CA”
“their tortillas and corn masa are made fresh daily.”
“A place like Los Tacos #1 is good and gets pretty close. But there's something about it that just feels *off* unlike other places I've been to.”
“As a west coaster, it’s as as close to Mexican tacos that I can find with fresh tortillas. Their carne asada isn’t all fat like most places I’ve tried here.”
“I love Los tacos. The steak taco from there is literally one of my top favorite foods of all time. But the new Union square location is very inconsistent with their quality, which was disappointing since I took my bf who's never been to that location for his first time and he didn't like it. The meat was disgustingly salty when we went.”
“if you get Los Tacos again, try ordering a "quesadilla", which is actually just a regular taco w a layer of melted cheese on the tortilla-- mindbogglingly good shit.”
“A true renaissance of the tortilla but I think their al pastor is the only good one. The carne asada is boring and under seasoned (imo) The chicken is too dry The cactus is too wet”
“Straight fire... they're pretty small tho so id recommend getting two (only 6$ per i think) and also mostly meat so its almost like eating a large taquito”
“I think it’s because they make their tortillas fresh with lard. Most places in NYC (and where people are from) use tortillas without lard so they stay fresher longer, but obviously they’re not nearly as good”
“It's a damn good taco. Maybe not best ever, but very good.”
“Los Tacos 1 and Taqueria Al Pastor are actually closer to the tacos I've had in Mexico than most of the random taco trucks I've been to. Part of it is the higher quality tortillas and the other part is the juicy/tender pastor”
“They have handmade tortillas and nice juicy al pastor, which puts them in the upper 5th percentile of taco places in NYC”
“Los Tacos wins points for fresh made tortillas, which most taco trucks in NYC don't have A taco can't be 10/10 with store bought tortillas”
“it is unironically one of the best Mexican spots there is. Their sister restaurant (Los Mariscos) is better though. Both have great tortillas since they nixtamalize their own corn and make their tortillas by hand.”
“Both very very good, but los tacos won out by a hair. I preferred their corn tortillas, and I think it came down to the way the meat was cut, it had a slightly better overall eating experience.”
“Los Tacos nixtamalizes their own corn and has fresh, high quality tortillas...that's why it's better than most of the taco trucks which tend to use store bought tortillas”
“they might as well be a taco from SD/TJ. That's where the techniques, recipes, and equipment are from. And the ingredients are equivalent”
“The tacos are very very good. It is the original Mexico City flavor”
“West 43rd was amazing both times I went. The Chelsea location didn't have the same char on the pastor which is very important to me.”
“When I went in the afternoon, I got the proper guacamole with my con to-do adobada tacos vs in the evening, they replaced the guacamole with a white-green avocado sauce which tasted nothing like their afternoon tacos”
“Tbh I like those! They are good but, me and my brother went and spent $70 for both of us and left so hungry we got pizza right after :/ it’s great but not the best value as we could spend $30 in queens and get absolutely stuffed.”
“I loved the guac and the ingredients were really fresh, as a veggie the only option for me was the cactus tacos - which were okay but not very flavoursome hence the slightly lower rating”
“Get the carne asada quesadilla with a corn tortilla. It isn’t what most people think when they hear quesadilla it is a carne asada taco with white cheese melted before the beef is put on. Sooo good.”
“The tortillas and al pastor/adobada are really good, it resembles what tacos in Mexico are like more so than most of the random places in NYC I've been to”
“The carne asada doesn’t have that rich char grilled flavor that I’ve had in Mexico or the Southwest. The sauces are kind of bland and don’t punch as hard as in Mexico.”
“Los Taco's No.1 is overrated because they are the type of street tacos you can find anywhere in the country if you know where to look and cost a fortune.”
“This is strictly opinion based but I do not get the hype around Los Tacos No. 1 and this is coming from someone who’s tried that spot back in 2018 before hearing all the hype. Honestly, I don’t get it. First off, the prices are ridiculous for what you get.”
“I would say this was better than anything I tried in San Fran. Sauces were amazing, meat was amazing. My type of food. 9.5/10”
“6/10 for the pork, 8/10 for the chicken. Found the pork a bit rich, the chicken was beautiful.”
“the carne asada and pollo asada really hit the spot”
“chicken tacos from los tacos no1, 5/5 delicious. guacamole was great”
“Because there aren't many good tacos here, so something like Los Tacos is equivalent to a $2.50 taco outside a food truck in Southern California.”
“Los tacos 8.5 Pork was very good. Chicken meh.”
“better than anything from SoCal”
“honestly those tacos were amazing!”
“both were great and their sauces are actually spicy, would definitely go back”
“it was absolutely worth the hype!”
“These are all top-tier tacos of various styles.”
“Los Tacos No 1 - better than anything from SoCal”
“los tacos”
“Admittedly I don't like guac or salsa so this was a questionable choice. Without those it was a little dry, but still extremely fresh and tasty. I can understand the hype. **4/5**”
“I wouldn't say any are better than Los Tacos.”
